about

Amongst the current barrage of social media campaigns, it’s funny to be formally introducing an artist who we first released back in 2014. With minimal fanfare, each subsequent record has went on to become sought after and repressed for a loyal audience of record buyers. In thanks part to the DJ support by the likes of Ben UFO, Lena Willikens and Hunee to Erol Alkan and Skream. We’re sure there’s more to it than celebrity names though, so without further ado.. meet CAIN.

CAIN grew up in the Highlands of Scotland playing the bagpipes at a world class competition level. Brought up in the traditions of Celtic music, he always noticed the similarities between folk music cultures from all around the world - where tunes that have lasted for centuries do so for a reason. They encapsulate local music traditions, landscapes, weather and cultural factors and result in something special. From the complex darbuka rhythms and Kazakh vocals on Bakhtin, Arabian acid melodies and samba rhythms of Sirin, to the sepia Indian soundscape of Cajal, his love of these traditions shines through.

Outside of piping, his musical diet included hip hop and grime and over time he's joined the dots between the elements of harmony, melody, rhythm and timbre, alongside modern production techniques. Above all, his music aims to convey his love of ‘infectious rhythm, ethereal beauty or an otherworldly strangeness’. Job well done in that case, as his releases have proven on dancefloors around the world time and again and we're delighted to finally be able to share them with you all.
